God’s Word Holds Power
Hello, friends! I hope your day is going great! I felt that the Lord gave me a specific word considering my current situation. Like some of you reading, I am beginning spring classes in a few days! As excited as I am to wrap up my last semester of undergrad, I have been accompanied by feelings of anxiety and unease when thinking about my future.
When you hear the word “anxiety” and “future”, you probably think of the verse Philippians 4:6 which says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Or maybe you think of Jeremiah 29:11 which says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Both of these verses are so important to know in times of anxiety and worry, but I am going to approach this topic differently…
Since it is the beginning of a new year, I decided to take on the challenge of reading the Bible in chronological order by chapter. With this reading plan laid out, I have been focused on the first few chapters of Genesis. Something that caught my attention after diving deep in Genesis 1, was verse 3: “And God said, ‘Let there be light’, and there was light.”
We all know the story of creation; God said let there be light, let there be land and sea, let there be animals to fill the earth, etc. and exactly what He spoke into existence existed. The reason I wanted to mention Genesis 1:3 is because it’s something so well known by most Christians, yet so overlooked.
To create light, God spoke. He didn’t have to do anything elaborate or even exciting. He didn’t have to come up with anything special or unique. He just spoke, and what He spoke, existence had no choice but to obey His Word.
I find mentioning this reminds us how powerful God truly is and the ability of what His Word can do. God said “Let there be light” and all of existence lit up. The power of God’s Word not only exceeds all of creation, but the spoken word of God has the ability to illuminate darkness.
I love how Genesis- the first book of the Bible- gives us so much insight and foreshadows that the very first action of God has the same impact on His actions in your life today. When we open our Bible, He opens His mouth. When His Word is spoken in your life, light begins to enter.
My favorite verse is Ezekiel 36:26 which says, “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” I love focusing on this verse when I read His Word. God holds such a transformative power that changes our entire thought process, heart posture, and the very essence of our being.
We may open our Bible with anxiety, depression, confusion, bitterness, etc. on our hearts, but His Word is so powerful that He breaks those barriers and allows light to flow into us where darkness lies. He expels a river of light to overcome the darkest corners of our hearts, joy that fills our disappointments and heartbreak, kindness that stomps over any bitterness we harbor, peace that triumphs our anxiety, and a hope that acts as a tunnel for our tomorrow.
When I think about the concerns and anxiety that arise in my heart, I remind myself of the power God’s Word has not only on my life but overall existence. If He holds enough power to bring light to the world, He holds enough power to bring peace in my life amid my worrying. He illuminates existence with a single word; what is there in your life that He cannot bring goodness out of?
I want to remind you of a scripture that I mentioned in one of my previous posts, Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” His Word is the very source of all joy, hope, and peace we crave. His Word is so powerful that creation lit up. His Word is so powerful that the darkness from anxiety, depression, fear, etc. flees.
I want to encourage anyone reading, including myself, to cling to the simple acknowledgment that if God speaks it, it will be done. He simply lit up all of creation with a sentence, and He holds enough power to relieve you of the stress and anxiety you may be feeling in your current situation. He doesn’t only relieve you from it, He replaces it with a peace that can only be found in Him.
If God, with a simple command, could dispel the darkness and bring forth light, then trust that He has the same authority to dispel the anxiety casting shadows over your heart. Just as He illuminated the world, He can illuminate your worries and replace them with the peace that surpasses all understanding. Let His Word be the light that scatters the darkness of anxiety, allowing His promises to shine brightly in your life.
Thank you for reading, friend!
